Preparing for a New Season

As I start this new and exciting season of life, I decided that writing a blog would fall in line with the other new things I will be learning as I prepare to move abroad for the semester. As my first blog post, I wanted to include a journal entry I wrote when I found out my placement in April...

April 11th, 2013
"There is a part of me that cannot believe I am going abroad to complete my degree. (Or that I am an Education major at all! WHAT?!?) Another part
of me is a little sad I'm not going to New Zealand, as I had originally thought, and the rest of me wishes school was over and that I was leaving for the trip tomorrow!

At the start of the week, I asked the Lord to answer the semester long question of where I would be teaching in the fall. I secretly doubted that he would come through.  As my heart dropped when I checked my email during class today, I saw that I had an email waiting with information about my placement. I could not help but think, how quickly do we doubt God's sovereignty in periods where we are asked to wait?

We have a gracious God who loves blessing us even in our doubts and stages of unbelief. Each time He proves me wrong, I am humbled and reminded that I am not nearly important enough to mess up a plan He has perfectly crafted for my well-being and for His glory. How silly of me to think I am capable of earning the father's love and favor."

So with that being said- I am SO excited to be headed to Port Elizabeth, South Africa at the end of July where I will be student teaching at the elementary level(not sure which grade yet) from August 5th- October 18th. A friend in my cohort, Rachel, is also placed in South Africa and we plan to spend time traveling until mid November after our placement finishes.

I am uncertain as to what this blog will look like during my time abroad. The last time I kept a journal abroad I only wrote about the food I ate while my twin sister, Meredith, made sure to write about pretty much everything else. SO I better step it up this time! ;) Good thing I have about 9 more years of education under my belt and a sweet little sister who will let me know if I make too many grammar mistakes!

Here is what I do promise; that this blog will be filled with joyful and genuine memories, feelings, and updates about my experiences in South Africa.

Love,

Casey :)
